Rules

Art.0. In the event of a dispute, only the French version of these rules is valid. The translated version is given for information only.

 

Art.1. The competition is organized by the non-profit organization Han-Lavrenov, BE0713908122, Rue de Visé 627 - 4020 Liège (Wandre) - Belgium, recognized by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Art.2. The « Appassionata International Music Competition for Amateurs» will take place from the 02 to the 06 of July 2021 at « Les Tréteaux » in Visé – Rue de la Chinstrée 2, 4600 Visé, Belgium


Art.3. The registration deadline is Tuesday the 01st of June 2021.


Art.4. Registration for the competition will only be validated after receipt of the presentation video, the registration fee and all documents completed in due form.


Presentation video*:

The presentation video must contain a personal recording (approximately 5 minutes long) of a work or an excerpt from the program. The presentation video must be uploaded via the Youtube platform by June 01, 2021 at the latest!

  • The recording must contain a work or an extract of a work (approximately 5 minutes duration) from the program the participant intends to play for the competition. .

  • The presentation video may contain clippings.

  • The camera must be fixed and all participants must be visible at all times.

  • A professional recording is not mendatory! Registration with mobile phone is sufficient. Participants will nevertheless ensure that the image and sound reflect their interpretation in a positive way.

* The organizers have the right to make a video preselection in order to ensure the smooth running of the event without any possible recourse from the participant (s). The organizers have the right to use and/or publish the candidate's presentation video for activities related to the competition.


Registration fee :

  1. Solo Participation : 20€ application fee + 30€ participation fee (50€ in total)

  2. Group Participation : 20€ application fee for the group + 30€ participation fee per participant.

  3. Groups of 11 participants and more : 350€/ single fee for the entire group

 

In case of withdrawal before June 1st, 2021 (not included), the participation fee only will be refunded. In case of withdrawal after June 1, 2021, no fees will be refunded. In case of cancellation of the competition by the organizers, application and participation fees will be refunded.
Participants who play in several groups benefit from a 50% discount on the participation fee only.

 

Art.5. Given the health restrictions, all participants must upload a video recording of their entire competition program via the Youtube platform and send the link mentioning their Last Name + First Name + Group Name (if applicable) to the following address: appassionatacompetition@gmail.com for July 1, 2021 at the latest!

The organizers have the right to use and/or publish the candidate's video for activities related to the competition.


Art.6. Official accompanying pianists will be available for Solo Participants only. However, additional fees apply for the participant who wishes to be accompanied by the official pianists. The additional costs are € 30 for a rehearsal and the performance. The additional costs must be paid and the accompanying scores must be sent at the latest at the end of the registrations - 01st of June 2021.

  • The recording must contain the entire program.

  • The program should be recorded in one take without editing or cutting.

  • The camera must be fixed and all participants must be visible at all times.

  • A professional recording is not necessary! Registration with mobile phone is sufficient. Participants will nevertheless ensure that the image and sound reflect their interpretation in a positive way.

 

Art.7. A jury renowned musicians will be present throughout the duration of the competition. The names of the members of the jury will be announced on the site before the start of the first round.

Art.8. A secretary of the jury will also be present.


Art.9. In the event of a tie, a casting vote will be given to the president of the jury.


Art.10. The organizers and the management will in no case be held responsible for the failure of a member of the jury, whatever the cause. However, they will take responsibility as far as possible to provide for his replacement, the choice of replacement being indisputable.


Art.11. The members of the jury will sign a declaration of honor to attest to their good faith.


Art.12. The decisions of the jury cannot be contested.


Art.13. Participants are required to have a respectful attitude towards all other participants, organizers and staff members in the competition as well as towards the material made available. Any excess will be sanctioned and may result in the immediate dismissal of the responsible participant (s). In this case, no refund will be made.

Art.14. Preparation rooms with piano will be made available to participants (subject to availability).


Art.15. Participants must come with their own instrument and equipment. However, a Yamaha C3 piano (or equivalent) and drums will be made available to pianists and percussionists. Sound equipment will also be available and will be used in priority! A detailed list of sound equipment for the competition will be sent on request.


Art.16. The management declines all responsibility for theft or damage to instruments or personal items.


Art.17. All recordings, whether video or audio, as well as photos, related to the competition are the property of the competition. By entering the competition, the candidate fully accepts that the organizers use photos and/or videos and/or sound recordings of said candidate for purposes related to the competition.


Art.18. Only staff memebers and organizers are authorized to record, film and photograph the candidates. Any fraud will be penalized.


Art.19. In the event of injury or material damage caused or suffered by a participant, the management and organization of the competition cannot be held responsible.


Art.20. Registration for the competition involves subscription to compulsory insurance.


Art.21. The winners of the competition are required to be present at the gala concert that will be held in the hall "Les Tréteaux" in Visé on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 and to play one or more pieces of the competition (if the health restrictions allow it). In the event of non-participation in the gala concert without a valid reason and validated by the organization of the competition, the prize awarding will be canceled.


Art.22. Candidates are responsible for their travel expenses, their meals and accommodation during the entire competition. The costs of their travel , meals and accommodation are the responsibility of the candidate.


Art.23. The competition is divided into two parts: 1. Solo participation - 2. Group participation
1 ° Solo: Are invited to participate, all amateur musicians on an international scale without age limit:

  • who are not enrolled or who have not completed full musical studies in a higher education institution for the discipline represented.

  • who don't make a living as a musician.

  • mainly students who take courses in music schools, non-profit organizations or private lessons..

 

The candidates will be ranked according to their playing and the presentation of their project, its outcome and its originality.

2° Group : Are invited to participate, all amateur musicians on an international scale without distinction of age:

  • who are not enrolled or who have not completed full musical studies in a higher education institution for the discipline represented.

  • who don't make a living as a musician.

  • mainly students who take courses in music schools, non-profit organizations or private lessons..

 

The group can be accompanied or conducted by one or more professional musicians at a maximum of 1/3 of the members. (example: a group of 10 musicians can contain a maximum of 3 professional musicians).


The candidates will be ranked according to their playing and the presentation of their project, its outcome and its originality.

Art.24. Participants (Solo / Group) in the competition must present a own choice program: one or two pieces of a total duration of maximum 15 (fifteen) minutes. The organizers and the members of the jury reserve the right to select only a part of the program if necessary.


Art.24.bis. The styles of music represented are: classical, jazz, folk, pop, rock, world music, variety music, improvisation (in the styles mentioned above).

  • Participants who wish to sing or play on a "soundtrack" must send it to the organizers by June 18, 2021 at the latest. This is to limit the waiting time and problems related to the soundcheck.


Art.25. The interpretation of the works can be done with scores.


Art.26. The introduction of inaccurate or false information during registration may result in the immediate dismissal of the participant (s). In this case, no refund will be made.


Art.27. By entering the competition, the participants have read and unconditionally accept the rules.
